FAQs

Q: WHAT EXACTLY IS A JUICE CLEANSE?

A: Juice fasting, also known as juice cleansing, is a controversial fasting method and a detox diet in which a person consumes only fruit and vegetable juices to obtain nutrition while otherwise abstaining from food consumption. Juice fasts may last anywhere from a few days to several weeks.

Q: ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS WHEN I DO A CLEANSE?

A: Each person experiences a juice detox and juice fast side effects differently depending on their body, their past, current illnesses and eating habits. Successive cleanses are usually different then the first cleanse.

Minor ailments such as colds, fevers, skin spots, headaches, pimples/boils, fatigue, dizziness, sinus pressure, runny nose, loose or hard stools, low energy and body odor are extremely common.

The cleanse is like a time machine…it takes you back through old problems and you re-experience old conditions as you stir up old toxins in your body. Some people say that their juice fast side effect consist of having flashbacks of feelings or tastes. People that use to smoke cigarettes years ago say they can taste it in their mouth. People that had done recreational drugs feel a little high as the drugs get released from the fat cells in the body. Joints hurt and sinus problems re arise.

This is called a healing crisis. It’s a good thing. These detox symptoms are a sign that the body is cleansing. A little discomfort now will do a world of difference later.

Q: IS IT OKAY TO STILL EXERCISE WHILE I’M ON THE CLEANSE?

A: Although it’s not recommended to go on a juice fast and work out, there are a few viable options. You can include one light meal of fresh veggies and a protein such as a chicken breast, small steak, pork chop, or tuna. This will give you plenty of protein to maintain your muscle mass during a fast. You can also add a pure unflavored protein isolate to your juices for the extra protein. Either of these options are great if you lead a very active lifestyle or plan to work out and exercise while juice fasting.

Q: CAN PREGNANT WOMEN DO A CLEANSE?

A:  Juice or water fasts are not a good idea during pregnancy, but continuing to drink lots of fresh veggie juice and green smoothies is a great way to provide nutrition for your baby and for you.

Q: CAN I KEEP TAKING MY SUPPLEMENTS WHILE I’M ON THE CLEANSE?

A: It is recommend stopping all non-prescription supplements during a juice fast. If your doctor or health care professional has prescribed a supplement due to a diagnosed deficiency then we recommend that you continue taking this during your juice fast.

We suggest this as you are likely to be receiving more nutrients than ever before and you may ingest too much of some specific vitamins and/or minerals.  While detoxing and following the guidelines, meal and juice plans you will be receiving an abundance of antioxidants, minerals, enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients.

Q: CAN I SNACK ON ANYTHING WHILE I DO THE CLEANSE?

A:  No. If you are “cheating” then you are just juicing and not fasting; which is OK as you are incorporating juice into your everyday lifestyle. Cheating disrupts your digestive system and confuses your functions; this is especially important if you are cleansing (detoxing).
